Lautner to work with Summit on new action film, Godfrey confirms two-part Breaking Dawn production in late 2010
Posted by Andrew on December 17th, 2009 | Comments (95)

Variety has published a new article revealing two interesting tidbits of information concerning Taylor Lautner, Breaking Dawn, and Summit.

First up, Summit has acquired a new script that they hope to have Taylor take the starring role in:

Summit has acquired an untitled script by Eric Champnella and Grant Thompson that is best described as a teenaged “Taken” meets “Die Hard.”

Dan Lautner will produce with Temple Hill partners Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen.

Dan Lautner is the actor’s father, and the action project becomes the first project in Tailor Made Entertainment, a company they’ve formed to develop film and TV vehicles.

After an injury sidelines a teen’s plans to be an elite soldier, he tries to get on with his life by heading to college. There he meets a girl who convinces him to join her friends on a spring-break trip to Cancun. When his traveling partners are kidnapped and ransomed for the freedom of a drug-cartel leader about to be extradited, the college student uses his warrior skills to rescue them.

Another interesting bit of info comes at the end of the article, where Twilight saga producer Wyck Godfrey confirms that Breaking Dawn will begin shooting in late 2010:

Godfrey said the hope is to get the Cancun-set project into production by June. Lautner will reprise his role of Jacob in “Breaking Dawn” beginning in late 2010, and it is likely that the final book will be divided into two films that will shoot back-to-back.

This is the first time we’ve gotten such a solid confirmation!

Breaking Dawn has so little plot… how will they make up enough to fill two movies? It seems just a pointless attempt to make more money.

Comment by Rain — 12/17/2009 @ 10:12 pm

Noooooooo! 2 Movies? Oh please, its gonna suck.

Comment by Doug — 12/17/2009 @ 10:22 pm

I agree that Breaking Dawn doesn’t have enough plot for 2 movies, but along with money there are a lot of fans that don’t want the movies to end right away since Eclipse is going to come out in June, if there was only one movie for Breakig Dawn the fans would be kind of upset, I guess its so the fans have more to look forward too.

I am one of those fans that doesn’t want to see the movies end so quickly…. lol :P
(also one of the fans would liked Twilight before it was cool to like Twilight :P )

Comment by Megan — 12/17/2009 @ 10:23 pm

I don’t care what others say about this! I’m very excited! I disagree about Breaking Dawn not having much of a plot! I thought it covered many things, infact it had a bigger plot than the first three books! Why are you complaining? No one is going to force you to watch it! Let the rest of the fans who want the movie be happy with getting this good news! Those who are against this are no better than the people who hate on the Twilight Saga in the first place! The new movie that was described sounds really good too! I think Taylor will be brilliant in this role!

Comment by Jess — 12/17/2009 @ 11:58 pm

I’m slightly concerned about the movie split idea..BD only has SO much plot in it, and splitting it into two might cause them to stretch out moments that are unnecessary and usually ignored from a one-movie standpoint, which could either go very well or very bad..I have to say I’m inclined to go with the second. While the first two movies were okay, I found Melissa Rosenburg’s screenwriting to be..kinda bad. If she is forced to write BD into 2 films, this could go from bad to worse..I understand the fans want for the series to continue for as long as possible, but do you really want another movie at the cost of their integrity as films and as part of the series? just my two cents.

Comment by Lucia — 12/18/2009 @ 12:39 am

the movie they want taylor 2 star in sounds lame

Comment by jess — 12/18/2009 @ 2:03 am

I agree with you Jess….and as for brekaing dawn…sigh….2 partS??….hmm

Comment by Shobi — 12/18/2009 @ 3:03 am

Breaking Dawn does NOT need to be in 2 films.
If they don’t want the franchise to end so quickly, then why have they pushed these films out so fast? There is nowhere near enough stuff to be put in 2 films, I personally felt that a lot of content could’ve being taken out of the book anyway.

I really hope they don’t do that.

Comment by Meg — 12/18/2009 @ 3:50 am

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

I would really not enjoy it if Breaking Dawn is split into 2 parts

they just stole the idea from Harry Potter!, however i don’t think it’ll work for Twilight

Comment by Adam — 12/18/2009 @ 4:11 am

I agree Adam. Splitting Breaking Dawn into 2 parts would be awful.
There’s not enough plot content to make two good, exciting, interesting films.
It needs to be one longer film. They can easily cut a lot from the book without ruining the plot as most of the book is Bella’s thoughts and not actual plot.
Splitting Breaking Dawn is BAD BAD idea.
Who-ever suggested this is an idiot!

Comment by Sarah — 12/18/2009 @ 4:27 am

on their website, it has a little tab next to all the other twilight movies that says “Breaking Dawn: Coming Soon” so I’m assuming since that’s on Summit’s website, that it’s going to be made or has been greenlighted.

Comment by Emily — 12/18/2009 @ 4:40 am

Wow, everyone on this page agrees there’s not enough plot for two Breaking Dawn movies and yet Summitt still wants to make two movies.
I highly suggest Summit stop being greedy money hungry twats and only make ONE Breaking Dawn movie. DON’T ruin the franchise like Warner Brother’s ruined Harry Potter.
If you agree please comment, we should start a petition or something.

Comment by Kerry — 12/18/2009 @ 4:56 am

they copiedharry potter!!!

Comment by taylor — 12/18/2009 @ 5:12 am

i agree that i don’t see how they will make it into two movies HOWEVER, Stephanie Meyer herself said that she thought it would have to be made into two movies if it could be made at all, so maybe they are just respecting her wonderful brain and wishes

Comment by Lindsey — 12/18/2009 @ 5:24 am

I am rereading Breaking Dawn right now and I think they could pull off two films, if done correctly. Is Melissa Rosenberg under contract for all of these films? I agree that her writing isn’t the best but she did do a better job with New Moon than Twilight. I hope Summit knows what they are doing cuz I would hate to see them fail. Are they following this blog???

Comment by Sara — 12/18/2009 @ 5:34 am

NOOOO!!!!! Break dawn in two parts will SUCK!!!! Summit are stupid copy cats. Harry potter being split is one thing, which I actually agree with but BD has no plot and is going to be so bad. Plus when is this going to be released… Summer 2011? That’s like the same time as harry potter too. Being competitive with harry p is not a good Idea for summit! Stupid stupid!!!! I’m totally against this :P

Comment by Emily — 12/18/2009 @ 5:53 am

I agree with the last half of what Kerry said, Stephenie wrote these novels and she has said many times that she wanted BD to be two movies. Obiously, it doesn’t matter what any of us think because in the end Summit will do what they think is best for the franchise and with respect to Stephenie. I personally don’t care whether its one or two movies, I liked the book and will watch whatever comes out. Bottom line, regardless of how some of you might feel, I guarantee you as with the rest of the fans will be lining up when it opens because that’s what TwiFans do.

Comment by Kalyn — 12/18/2009 @ 6:05 am

Yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!They’re making BD a movie! You people should just be happy that they’re making it. BD is one of my favorite books and I’ll enjoy seeing it very much! I can’t wait for Eclipse!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Comment by Sage — 12/18/2009 @ 6:46 am

Kalyn:
I realise Stephenie wants two movies but to be honest, I don’t think she realises that movies are very different from books and that movies need far more plot and not just Bella’s thoughts.
There’s hardly any plot to stretch it to two movies. They will end up being very boring movies that will not be received well by the fans. I want the Twilight movies to be good and thats why I am completely against TWO BD movies.

Deathly Hallows has too much plot and thats why they need two movies. Breaking Dawn is completely different.

Comment by Kerry — 12/18/2009 @ 6:56 am

I personaly LOVE the idea of Breaking Dawn being split into two movies :)
An extra 2 hours or so…yay :)
And there is more than enough plot for two movies, And you all know that you’ll be lining up to see them both anyway.
We should respect stephenie meyers wishes, without her we wouldnt even have had ANY movies…And theyre giving us an extra one so we should NOT complain xxx

Comment by eriika — 12/18/2009 @ 7:21 am

It is ironic how Breaking Dawn is the largest book of the Saga but has the least amount of content. Not sure how it will turn out, being split into 2 films. I know it’s unlikely that Chris Weitz would return for BD but I REALLY hope he does. Having a fourth filmmaker coming on board seems like a little too much to me. I would think that the actors would want a familiar face for their last Twilight Saga outting.

Why is it that Taylor and Rob both have projects with Summit but……as far as I know Kristen does not? No appreciation for the leading lady! Say what you want about Kristen but she is the lead actor. Maybe she just wants to break out on her own. I can definitely see that.

Comment by Cleigh — 12/18/2009 @ 7:56 am

NOOO. THIS WILL BE TERRIBLE. THE MOVIES WILL SUCK.
And I would like to point out how much these twilight movies have been copying the HP franchise… robert pattinson? coming out in either late november or july? midnight release parties for everything (by the way, midnight release was JKR’s idea)? and now the last part in two movies??? If they are trying to bring breaking dawn to the same level as Deathly Hallows, it won’t work. The Harry Potter series is and always be higher quality than twilight. GO HP!!!

Comment by Annie — 12/18/2009 @ 8:08 am

I have a question for everyone who would like two movies:

Where will the split happen and how will they make the plot break into two concise stories?

I do not think there is a good answer to this question so I strongly feel Summit should keep it as one movie

Comment by Ashley G. — 12/18/2009 @ 8:28 am

This will SUCK. Sorry. The. End. Really? There is NOT enough plot for two complete films. There is plenty for one full film though, why don’t they just stick to one? Where the heck are they going to split it? In Deathly Hallows it’s different (only bringing this up because you others have) because there is more than enough plot/ story in that book to make THREE films haha…there are so many places where it could be split and still tell one whole story…

With Breaking Dawn, it’s not like that. You can’t split it anywhere and still keep the same story. I know what you’ll say: “split it when she is changed.” Noooooooo.

There is not enough story in this book to carry two films and keep people’s attention from going astray. I know lots of people disagree, but you have that right. I know we feel differently, however the majority of the people on this post feel it should not be split…take from that what you will “Twihards”…hate that saying.

Comment by Tyler — 12/18/2009 @ 8:36 am

and the movie for Taylor…it sounds…interesting. We’ll see if it’s not TOO corny ;)

2movies means more twilight so i’am all for breaking dawn being 2 movies yay cant wait till they release it woo hoo

GO TEAM EDWARD BLACK

Comment by erin — 12/18/2009 @ 9:08 am

Two BD movies are ridiculous !!! They ARE so copying Harry Potter 7! Come on!! BD sucked so bad, I can’t believe they think two movies are good for it. Hello, HP7 has so much material I mean, hello! but BD is so lame. and whatever, if it isn’t it’s still slow. So, omg, I’m so mad right now!! I can’t believe this! 2 movies?? really? noo please!! I love the Twilight saga but I feel that if they do this, they are gonna end with my love for it. it’s just simply wrong!

And, what the heck, more time for us, fans, to have Twilight? I mean, that’s Summits problem, with them wanting to release the movies so fast! I mean, Look at Warner Bros, they lasted HP for more than a decade, I mean, they are intelligent people. They have HP fans waiting and expecting things. Ok, I’m gonna stop talking about HP, but I still think this is wrong wrong! I was hoping they would deny that “rumor” about BD being split in two. Gosh…..

andddd they should take the fan’s opinion into consideration. which is that it will suck.

Comment by Zuleyma — 12/18/2009 @ 9:59 am

What?!?!?!?! Split in two?!?!!? Ugh, this is gonna suck major ass!

I’m happy for you though, Taylor :0/

Comment by Liliana — 12/18/2009 @ 10:22 am

Forgot to add, that i will need a major sedative to get through these TWO films… I need one for the book itself, i can only imagine the film…

Comment by Liliana — 12/18/2009 @ 10:23 am

Nooooooooooo PLEASEEEEEEEE!!!

Breaking Dawn should make fine into one film! Just make a 2.45 – 3 hr movie and that will be fine, there are SO MANY things that can be left out, like that boring Jacob part.

I’m also with the comment that Melissa Rosemberg’s scripts are kinda lame, hope they will get another screenwriter for BD!

Don’t copy HP7!

Comment by Abraham — 12/18/2009 @ 10:30 am

YES!

Breaking Dawn split into two parts!

Amazzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzing!

That means they will get the birth right! (hopefully!)

and Cancun, baby! Can you say love scene in the water?

Bammmmmmm! Team Breaking Dawn!

Comment by AshleyY — 12/18/2009 @ 10:43 am

Kerry, I understand that making a book into a film has to have plot. I personally liked BD and thought there was a lot to it besides Bella’s thoughts. I mean that statement could be said for all the books, every book except the the one part in BD was Bella’s POV. Let me reiterate, I don’t care whether the movie is one or two movies, I do agree that probably one movie, three hours long would go over better but its not up to us decide.

Also, why is it that so many people like to compare HP to Twilight, there are no similarities and therefore not compareable. Not sure what all the fuss is about, I’ve seen all the movies and there decent but not extradionary by any means. Plus correct me if I’m wrong but when has HP ever had tickets ordered months in advance?

There are so many authors out there besides these two that have told great stories and some of those great stories have been turned into films. Some one commented above how Twilight is copying HP…who cares? Its a filming industry, so many directors / movies copy off each other everyday, this is no different.

Again this is my OPINION, you don’t have to agree with it. On some other fansites, people like to nick pick everything someone says, I’m not interested in any of that. This is just a comment page.

Comment by Kalyn — 12/18/2009 @ 10:54 am

@Adam Harry Potter is not the originator of splitting movies into two parts.

I’ll rent BD when it comes out on DVD. At least they’re shooting it as one film.

Comment by Mel — 12/18/2009 @ 10:56 am

you guys shouldn’t talk most of u hated breaking dawn anyway and so what if it is two films that is the way stephenie wats it she is the writer of the book so what she says goes if u dont want to see breaking dawn then dont see it

Comment by jody lynn — 12/18/2009 @ 11:22 am

I really don’t get why everybody hates BD so much!! I loved it and to be honest it’s stephenie’s book series she can write what she wants!
I was worried about the films finishing too quickly and this way we get to have new films for a little bit longer….I’m excited about having 2 films and i thing there IS enough plot…loads of stuff happens and if they tried to fit it into 1 film loads of stuff would get missed out or wouldn’t be explained properly…the wedding/honeymoon/pregnancy needs to be done right as well as the stuff with the volturi!

I mean just look at the NM film which i loved but even out of that they missed loads of stuff out and there isn’t even much plot in NM! I felt that film was slightly rushed so heaven knows how they were supposed to do breaking dawn which has TWICE the plot in the same time????

C’mon people just be glad that they’re making it and if you don’t like the book then act like the eclipse film is the last one and don’t go and see the breaking dawn movies…..there problem solved
:-D :-D :-D :-D :-D

REALLY? tons of HP tickets have been sold months in advance, I am not sure about the numbers exactly, but they are probably second only to the advance sales for New Moon.

Also, you should NOT judge a series by the movies, go read the books and you will understand why HP fans get upset over comments like yours.

HAHAHAHA REALLY??? Wow…HP SET THE RECORD for having advanced ticket sales! Get with the times!

And do not judge Harry Potter based on the movies, because ANY HP fan will tell you the movies are a good visual for us to see, but do not represent the books to the fullest at all! Same can be said for Twilight Saga.

Comment by Taylor — 12/18/2009 @ 12:29 pm

Ashley and Taylor

Apparently you missed my last paragraph, if you don’t like my comment or agree with it that’s fine. I’m allowed to have my opinions about Twilight and HP as you are too. I recognize your name Ashley on other posts, I get your a fan of HP but not everyone is.

Taylor said “And do not judge Harry Potter based on the movies, because ANY HP fan will tell you the movies are a good visual for us to see, but do not represent the books to the fullest at all!” That could be said of Twilight too, you both defend HP, great…some of us really liked BD and are trying to defend that. We are no different, you all love HP and some of us loved BD and think there’s a lot of information in that book. That’s why some of your comments upsets us.

I’M SURE SOMEONE WILL NOT LIKE WHAT I POSTED, THEN DON’T RESPOND.

Comment by Kalyn — 12/18/2009 @ 12:57 pm

I apologize for my ignorance about the advance ticket sales of HP. I just know that since Twilight came out, there’s news about it everywhere and I haven’t heard much about HP since the first few films.

Comment by Kalyn — 12/18/2009 @ 12:58 pm

I just think its humerous that we’re on a Twilight fansite and there are people talking HP. I only mentioned HP because it was mentioned up above. I will see whatever Summit releases as far as BD goes and to the HP fans, I didn’t mean to upset anyone, I was just giving my opinion since this is a comment page. Have a great holiday everyone.

Comment by Kalyn — 12/18/2009 @ 1:03 pm

I’ll keep an open mind until Breaking Dawn comes out. Then I think we should judge whether the split was a good idea or just a way to get more money.

Comment by Claudia — 12/18/2009 @ 1:26 pm

I am confused I thought this was a Twilight page, why are people talking about HP? People need to keep in mind that just because you read the HP books and see the movies doesn’t mean your a fan of HP, I have read them and there mediocre. The same could be said for Twilight as others have pointed out. Yay for more Twilight movies!

Comment by Vicki — 12/18/2009 @ 1:30 pm

@Kalyn, yes everyone has opinions and I respect that, however your opinion was based on your own lack of knowledge of the HP series, also NEVER say “correct me if I am wrong” if you do not want to be corrected lol (i’m just saying)

Furthermore, the majority of the fans on this site were “carry overs” from Mugglenet, which is probably why HP is brought up so much

Comment by Ashley G. — 12/18/2009 @ 1:49 pm

I totally agree with Ashley G.

Also, I knew about this site thanks to Mugglenet.

And I also agree with Kalyn about the not-compare-HP-with-Twilight. They have nothing in common but a lot of people following them. Still, when I first heard of BD being split in two I immediately thought of Deathly Hallows being split in two, too.

I don’t think BD should be in two movies. Personally, I didn’t enjoy it that much.

Comment by Zuleyma — 12/18/2009 @ 2:13 pm

I agree Zuleyma, HP and Twilight just have a lot of followers and a lot of the same fans

-Bella and Edward get married
-Then they go to Isle Esme for two weeks or so
-Bella, at Isle Esme, finds out she is pregnant
-Edward and Bella fly back to Forks
-Then it’s Jacob’s point of view. He finds out Bella is pregnant.
-He gets furious, tells the pack, and they plan to fight
-He visits Bella often throughout his point of view
-He then decides against the decision to fight and breaks free from the pack
-He protects the Cullens and their house and territory with Seth and Seth’s sister
-Bella has Renesme
-During birth, Edward turns Bella into a vampire
-Back to Bella’s point of view, Bella enjoys the life as a vampire.
-Bella finds out Jacob imprinted on Renesmee
-One of the sisters of the other coven of vampires sees Renesmee and thinks she is a newborn vampire.
-Alice starts having visions, and ditches the Cullens.
-Bella and the Cullens and Jacob and the other wolves plan a fight against the Volturi.
-The Cullens invite many old vampire friends and families to join the fight
-Bella gets trained to fight and to use her shield
-Bella plans a way to get Renesmee and Jacob safe and visits the guy with the fake IDs
-They fight the Volturi (Almost)

It’s a long plot and a long book. I agree with the two movies. This is a LOT of information.

Comment by blake — 12/18/2009 @ 3:04 pm

Kalyn- I’m sorry to burst your bubble but Twilight broke 1 record- the weekend release and thats it, it didn’t even chart on the list of highest grossing movies of all time, so regardless of whether people ordered tickets months in advance (which they did for Harry Potter too), Harry Potter is the #1 movie franchise of all time, which means people came back to see the movie.

And regarding Twilight copying HP I think thats a pretty valid statement considering a) the rumors about a BD split arrived immedietly after the DH split was announced, and b) Summit is greedy and wants money, even at the expanse of ruining the end of a movie franchise.

Comment by Andy — 12/18/2009 @ 4:13 pm

I personally didnt really like BD the book but I’m excited to see what summit does with 2 movies. Hopefully they add some cool stuff like they did with New Moon (The fight in volterra with Felix and edward)

There are soooo many haters on this site :( Be positive people…. plus 2 movies = more twilight

Ok for those of who haven’t read Breaking Dawn, DO NOT read this message. This is to aLL of you who say that Breaking Dawn does not have enough pLot for two movies. PersonaLLy, i thought it had much more than the previous 3. Ok #1 the wedding #2 BeLLa and Edward’s raunchy vamp boom-boom scenes #3 BeLLa’s pregnancy #4 Renesmee #5 Jacob’s imprint on Renesmee #6 the whoLe big fLippin amount of cLans that visit the CuLLens in Forks HELLO PEOPLE IS THAT NOT ENOUGH FOR YOU!! MY GOODNESS IF THEY DON’T SPLIT THIS BOOK, IT’LL BE TERRIBLE WITH EVERYTHING ALL SQUISHED AND FORCED INTO ONE MOVIE!!

Comment by MasenBLack — 12/18/2009 @ 4:18 pm

I disagree about those who are saying that BD being split into 2 movies is copying HP. There has been rumors of BD being 2 movies for a long time and I’m sure the only reason why it was brought up is because Stephanie suggested it. Why does there have to be Twifans against HPfans? Their both an excellent series and we are lucky to have had the opportunity to read and watch both. I personally think that if they make BD into 2 movies, they should do the split right after Reneseme is born and Jacob feels the pull towards her. That way they get the wedding, Island Esme, Jacobs story, Bella’s pregnancy and delivery all in the first movie, than Bella’s new life as a vamp, Reneseme’s connection to Jacob and her ability, all Covens joining and prepration for the battle and the battle itself, and Bella opening up for Edward. I really don’t see the big fuss over this! There is plenty of plots in this book and they shouldn’t have to cut any of them out to make it one movie. They should stick true to the books, Stephanie and us fans!

Comment by Jess — 12/18/2009 @ 4:22 pm

The reason why HP fans and Twilight fans fight is because unfortunately people do not enjoy both series, and many HP fans dislike Twilight and visa versa.

And for all those people who are obviously disgruntled by Summit’s decision, suck it up, they will have enough context.. Especially if they stick to the book.

Comment by Bianca — 12/18/2009 @ 4:50 pm

Um, okay, why are there Harry Potter people on here anyway? If they like Twilight, then great, talk GOOD things about Twilight and the movies, not a load of crap because they are jealous that Twilight is getting attention and not their precious Harry Potter. Lol get over it, weirdos! Breaking Dawn is splitting into two movies, oh my god, it’s not the end of the world.
Get a life!

Comment by Ellen — 12/18/2009 @ 5:49 pm

Oh and Jess, I completely agree with you 100%. Breaking Dawn is going to be two movies, so just accept it everyone. Don’t hate on it. It won’t ruin the books. It CAN’T ruin the books because the books are always going to be the same amazing thing that they are today, just made into movies. And so what if Summit is just trying to get as much money as possible. That’s their job, that’s what movies and movie people do.

this is lameness.
where will the cliffhanger be at the end of part one?? and then part 2 will just be boring because NOTHING HAPPENS.idk.one movie would be fine, just make it 3 hrs long.I get why some people are happy about this, since this will extend the longevity of the series, but it shouldn’t be just to end it badly.it should be done well and end on a good note.

Ok so my comment is I ont understand the people who comment that they dont like twilight why are you on here? And I love BD I am a die hard fan and I will love the movies no matter what. and maybe this way they can focus more on Bella and Edward time after she is changed. I love that part.

Comment by faith — 12/18/2009 @ 8:05 pm

BS has to be two movies. There is WAY too much to do it any other way. Especially considering that a third of the book is Bella as a newborn, the first hunt, the Volturi involvement, all the other vampires to stand with the Cullens and the wolves, the conflict at the end, the times Edward and Bella spend together…. Ok, so it’s totally out of order, well sorta, but I don’t see how all the important parts of the book can be trasformed into a movie without making it too choppy. It’s got to flow and that means things need to develop. Two movies for sure and yes, the screenwriting for Twilight was less than desireable but NM was for sure a step up (although still some issues, like breaking up Edward’s speech at the end ..seriously….)so I’m not too worried about BD. Think of all the flack Melissa got (and still gets) ….. She’s got to be more aware of what the fans want.

Comment by Erin — 12/18/2009 @ 8:21 pm

Are you all serious? “not enough plot for two movies”. Are you reading the same book? Everything that happens before she gets married and turned into a vamp, then everything after she is a vamp. Have you forgotten that JACOB goes through alot in BD also so there is HIS side to tell too. I ALWAYS wanted it to be in two movies, as did Stephenie Meyer, so I am THRILLED that it will be two. Thanks Summitt!!!

Comment by Melissa — 12/18/2009 @ 8:49 pm

Oh, I must also add that as a true fan of the books and the movies, I DO NOT mind paying to see two films. Hell, I paid three times to see NM on opening weekend. LOL

Comment by Melissa — 12/18/2009 @ 8:55 pm

if there will be two parts i just wish that the part one ending will be when bella became a vampire that the last word of the film will be “ooopppsss” then lights out – to be end – hehehhe. how’s that? the part two film will be the start of her as a vampire heheheh.. hope that will be the case.. well it’s just a suggestion guys.. so that the story of part one will not be hanging to those who will watch the movie and that the viewers will know what will be the outcome of the part two. right? well summit entertainment, that’s just my opinion.

Comment by leighLa — 12/18/2009 @ 9:40 pm

Gee, lotsa hate on two movies….calm down folks. I agree with Pamelaa, what book WERE you guys reading? Did you guys all just SKIP over Jacob’s book or something? There is plenty plot to fit into two films!

And once on imprint, there was an email suggesting the cliffhanger for breaking dawn part one. You’d hear Bella’s rapid heartbeat in the dark, then silence, and then you see her eyes snap open vampire red. At least, that’s the general gist of it. And a lot happens in the next part! There’s a lot of getting to know nessie and bella getting into the swing of things as a vampire–which could last a lot longer than the “spoiler” during New–and then there’s the threat of the Volturi and all that happens to prepare for the arrival/looming battle. There’s the new covens being introduced, training Bella, training in general, and the confrontation. Plus the little happily ever after snippet.

TAKE ALL THAT INTO CONSIDERATION, 2-PART HATERS! READ BD AGAIN. YOU PROBABLY HATED IT WHEN YOU READ IT and THAT’S why you don’t think it could be made into two parts. Read it again. Seriously read it with no prejudice and an open mind. If it helps, take notes on it.

IF YOU DON’T LIKE WHAT I SAID I FRANKLY DON’T CARE.

Seriously people need to get over hp vs. twilight bc they’re 2 completely different sagas with both good and bad qualities so just shut up with all the arguing it’s stupid… Plus this is a twilight website so show some respect to your fellow posters… This is exactly why I hated high school.

Comment by Emily — 12/18/2009 @ 10:51 pm

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
I’m firmly in the don’t make it into two films camp. Breaking Dawn was not a good story – it was overly long, repedative and incoherrant at times, So much of it could be cut and then they could make one halfway decent film (maybe) I mean why would I want to sit in a cinema and watch Bella follow all those clues to J.Jenks (or whatever his name was) when it leads nowhere and has no significance in the story. Why would I want to watch such a watered down version of Edward? Why would I want to watch such a mary-sue story that lacks emotional resonance and undermines the first three books? I love the world of Twilight – I will see a movie multiple times, (I saw Twilight 43 times at the cinema, I’ve seen New Moon 6 times to date)I could probably force myself to see one film of Breaking Dawn but I won’t see it in two parts, either of them.

@ Madge – I have read BD multiple times, I really wanted to love it but I don’t. Each time I read it I found it more disatisfying – It’s just not a very good story and it’s a horrible way to end the saga.

Comment by Liz — 12/19/2009 @ 1:11 am

I’ll be honest at frist, I was thinkging there was not enough to do two movies. But, then I re-read BD and realized that if done right it would be awsome. There is a lot to the story. I think if it was one flim we would lose the depth of the characters, which I fell has been kind of lacking in the Twilight and NM movies. Therefore, I’m very hopefull that this will be a good thing

@ Liz- I’m curious why you think the way BD ended was a horrible way to end it. I loved the end, I felt it was perfect for the series.

Comment by Delilah — 12/19/2009 @ 1:55 am

I originally felt BD would be best left in one film but the more I think about it, the more I am comfortable with it being split into 2. I’m just so excited that production is confirmed!!!

I do hope they “beef up” the ending somewhat. I have always felt that the ending lacked a lot. It just seemed to end too abruptly in a way.

And I am so happy for Taylor and his new project! I will be looking forward to seeing it!!

Comment by Jayemvee — 12/19/2009 @ 5:20 am

Ashley, fair enough but I stated other things on this post before I made that statement and my post still got nick picked. Just saying, lol.

Andy, I don’t agree with you regarding Twilight copying HP, every other author is entitled to have their say when it comes to their books being made into films. I understand that there are a lot of HP fans on here but regardless who read the series who didn’t, who liked BD who didn’t, etc. it all comes down to everyone having different opinions. Doesn’t make what I say right, or you, or anyone else.

“Kalyn- I’m sorry to burst your bubble but Twilight broke 1 record- the weekend release and thats it, it didn’t even chart on the list of highest grossing movies of all time, so regardless of whether people ordered tickets months in advance (which they did for Harry Potter too), Harry Potter is the #1 movie franchise of all time, which means people came back to see the movie.”

There’s no need to be rude, I wasn’t talking just about Twilight. New Moon has grossed 3x what Twilight has and you just need to keep in mind that Twilight and HP is not popular everywhere. The last two places I have lived, when the HP movies came out there was hardly any hype or excitement surrounding them, not like Twilight. People just need to keep that in mind.

Two movies? Um, no. There is not enough content for one movie, let alone two. Breaking Dawn was one of the worst books I have read. Ever. There was no plot and it was rushed. Every character, especially the Cullens, were OOC.

I’ll wait until it gets leaked online and just watch all of the stuff with the wolfpack, especially Seth and Leah, since those were the only parts I liked.

Comment by Colleen — 12/19/2009 @ 7:12 am

guys stop bitching!
just be happy that there doing the WHOLE series, and you have more jacob and edward <3

Comment by CloverMonster — 12/19/2009 @ 9:19 am

@ Delilah, Thanks for the question. My problem with Breaking Dawn is much the same as many other people who didn’t like it but mainly it boils down to this – for three books we were told that becoming a vampire would be hard, that sacrifice would be involved and that choices would have to be made but no, in Breaking Dawn we discover that all that was a load of nonsense and that becoming a vampire is a walk in the park for Bella. She gets to keep the Cullen’s, her human relatives, her friends and the wolves and she also gets to become a mother – something implicitly human that she should have had to sacrifice to become a vampire. In short Bella gets everything, Edward reluctance to change her in the first three books seems non-sensical and all that talk of choices and sacrifies in T, NM and E means exactly nothing. Some people can be satisfied with the ‘happy ending’ but I find it trite and cowardly storytelling. Themes were set up in the first three books and then completely ignored in BD because they were not condusive with Ms. Meyer’s version of a ‘happy ending’. I could go on and get really nit-picky – I hated the wedding (it just seemed so un-bella-like) the honeymoon sex – I don’t want to read about Edward biting pillows or bruising being anyway acceptable as a result of intercourse, Watered down, inconsistent characterisation and don’t get me started on that baby, the imprinting or lack of exciting resolution to the Volturi problem! And then to cap it all off Bella lets him ‘read her mind’ at the end – ugh, I hated that. I just don’t find the though of Edward and Bella living together and doing nothing but having awesome vampire sex for all of eternity a satisfying conclusion to a series that, up to that point I genuinely loved.

Comment by Liz — 12/19/2009 @ 3:49 pm

Interesting take on BD, I was glad to see things go a bit easier for Bella since the first three books Bella just went through one disaster after the next, that storyline gets a bit old. The wedding and honeymoon were one of my most favorite parts of the book; plus it was nice to read a book that the author didn’t get obnoxious with the sex scenes. The imprinting is a different scenario and unique but I thought it fit the story quite well, afterall it is pure fantasy.

It’s interesting to read everyone’s takes on the books because there all so different.

Comment by Kalyn — 12/19/2009 @ 4:31 pm

2 movies? What’s the point of it? They could always cut out some parts of the book (which I would not enjoy but you know…). They take Robert Pattinson from Harry Potter, know they’re copying them by splitting it into two movies? Not cool man, not cool.

Comment by Belle G. — 12/19/2009 @ 9:30 pm

There is no reason for them to split BD into two movies!!!! Where would they cut it??? There is not enough in the book to make it into two full-length movies!!!! I’m NOT happy about this….

Comment by Amanda — 12/19/2009 @ 11:12 pm

I think Melissa will find this very tough to write if she’s gone too far with the ‘love triangle’ in Eclipse ie. not making it obvious that it was always Edward and that Bella was merely confused by Jacob’s mind games. Should Eclipse imply that Jacob&Bella were getting hot and heavy then movie go-ers will be left stunned by the Jacob&Renesmee relationship as the thought of Renesmee asking Jacob “so, you and my Mom ?” would be gross, gross, gross. I hope that Melissa won’t have too much back-tracking to do in this aspect or BD will NOT work as the Edward&Bella love story will not have flowed properly throughout the movies and thus what happens in the BD movie will be even more unrealistic.
Also, BD is a long book but portraying certain aspects in film will be tough, such as ‘Jacob’s story’ since a lot of that is just repeating the story but through Jacob’s eyes for example.
Obviously, I think Melissa would expand on the story to make it long enough for two movies but I don’t trust her since she’s messed up both Twilight and NM scripts thus far.

Comment by Juliet — 12/20/2009 @ 1:41 am

@Liz, thanks for answering. I was just curious because, for me if I would have written BD mostly the same. I know it is a little silly to be happy that Bella gets to have everything. But, I just can’t help myslef….I’m a sucker for a good ending. Though, if there was to be a little more action at the end I would not complain.

Comment by Delilah — 12/20/2009 @ 3:03 am

Of course, I mean at the end with the stand off between the Volturi and the Cullens, needed more action.

Comment by Delilah — 12/20/2009 @ 3:07 am

Liz~ I completely respect your opinion even if I don’t agree with it. The way I look at it is that the wedding for more about Edward from the beginning. He wanted to get married, the wedding was set in “time era theme” to what it would have been if it was taking place when Edward was a human. What’s wrong with two people who are completely inlove wanting to share one of the most intimate things two people can share. At least Stephanie wrote for them to wait until they are married. Edward was digusted with himself about the condition of Bella being bruised. I looked at it more of a realization of how much stronger a vampire is than a human. Why should Bella have to give up her family, friends, the Cullens and being a mother? Yes, it was explained that being a New Born Vamp would be difficult and hard, yet I looked at it being easier for Bella because of her being a shield.

There are so many point of views and perspectives on the entire Series. It doesn’t make anyone wrong or right! This is life and in life there is nothing that everyone will view or agree with. If you didn’t like the book, that’s fine! However, those who did like the book shouldn’t be critizized nor should those who didn’t like it like many of you have done on this page.

i read someone wouldnt want to watch the j.jenks scenes. personally those we’re some of my favorites. mostly because something like that would have never have happened in twilight new moon or eclipse.im also stoked to see what they do with book jacob. honestly im just so happy it’s actually happening

people they had to make all of the movies fast because vampires and werewovles dont age!it would have been stupid to have them look old

i think breaking dawn should totally be in two parts that way they can add all the details that the book has.so dont dis they’re doing a good job!!

my comment to liz-there is no point in complaining about the twilight series the books is already out and theres no changing it.if u dont like it, suck it up and go find another website to dis the twilight saga on

Comment by christy — 12/20/2009 @ 10:45 pm

Wow a lot of hate at the idea of 2 movies, but I’m absolutely thrilled! BD was my favorite book (I seriously liked each one more than the last) and I think there is a lot of information to cover which justifies 2 movies if you want to do it right. We all know a lot gets left out when they try and force it into 2 hours – New Moon was wonderful but most people agree it should have been a little longer so the end wasn’t so rushed (I think 10 more minutes would have worked tremendously). Having BD in 2 parts means they’ll really be able to get some detail in, and I hope Chris Weitz directs because I think it was his input that saved that script from Melissa.

Kathy, someone doesn’t want J. Jenks scenes in the movie? You’re kidding – I agree with you that they are great scenes. I even picture JK Simmons (the Chief in “The Closer” on TNT) as Jenks – I don’t know why…

Comment by Erin — 12/20/2009 @ 10:48 pm

couldnt agree with u more madge!!yall need to stop hatin’ breaking dawn is gonna be a good movie even if it is gonna have two parts.and to everyone who says that there isnt enough plot for two parts they obviously didnt read the book.tons of things happen in breaking dawn;the wedding the pregnancy edward and jacobs pain and emotion the birth of renesme bella becoming a vampire bella almost killing jacob the imprint and lots more!!!!!that seems like a lot of plot to me…..

Comment by annie — 12/20/2009 @ 10:59 pm

this is…not going to end well for summit..

Comment by Shobi — 12/21/2009 @ 12:44 am

I think there is a bit of confusion here…

BD may seem to have a lot of plot as a book form, but I don’t think this will be so as a movie. You may list ALL the details of the book, they may even fit an entire page, but when these “details” are actually filmed, they will literally take minutes.

The two films option is ONLY plausible, if they ADD extra scenes to the film. Sort of what they did with New Moon. That’s the only logical option they have. Otherwise, Summit is indeed only trying to cash in.

Personally, BD is the worse of the series for me. And I found myself exasperated reading it. It was also the longest read for me, of the four book series.

I can understand why people are excited about having more to look forward to. But, are you really willing to sacrifice prolonging the series, at the risk of losing the core story of the series? For me, that is a no. So I would much rather have this be only one movie.

Obviously, arguing over this will not solve much since if the decision is made by the studio, nothing will in fact stop them. But, I wouldn’t’ call it arguing, but discussing. We as fans can stand together at the very least come to an understanding. That being, that we want the story to remain true to the source material, whether, the films end in 2011 or 2012. And are certainly not willing to sac rife the story for the sake of having a few more hours of gawking time at Rob and Taylor.

As to the HP and Twilight issue… I don’t see why people can’t be accepting of people’s preferences.

The Twilight series was actually what brought me to read HP. In my opinion, HP is the better series. Yes, they are two vastly different stories. However, I love both series for just that… loved them differently, but with the same fervor.

Comment by Liliana — 12/21/2009 @ 6:32 am

@ christy – If you’d read my earlier post you’d see i’m not ‘dissing’ twilight – I’m a big fan. Someone asked me directly for my opinion of Breaking Dawn, so I gave it. It’s just my opinion, I don’t see why it should bother you, I’m not asking you to change your opinion or anything. If you love it, good for you. I don’t that is my perogative and the reson I hope they only make one film :)

Comment by Liz — 12/21/2009 @ 3:03 pm

All it really comes down to is that they’re making Breaking Dawn into a moive. Whether it’s a 3hr movie or two-part movie, it’s being made. If you didn’t like the book, then don’t watch the movie. If you liked it, stop complaining in the context and form that the movie is being delivered.
