Stephenie Meyer joins Breaking Dawn production team as producer
There’s another story within today’s Breaking Dawn press release that we thought deserves its own post. In passing, Summit mentions that Twilight author Stephenie Meyer will be one of the film’s producers:
THE TWILIGHT SAGA: BREAKING DAWN, is currently being written by Melissa Rosenberg, and will star Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner. Wyck Godfrey, Karen Rosenfelt, and Stephenie Meyer will produce the project.
This is the first time Stephenie is being credited as a Producer for any of the Twilight films. We think this is great news. With Stephenie having more of a role in the production of the film we can expect it to be especially loyal to the book!

yess!!
i think this will be really loyal to the book because steph’s producing it!!
this really are good news!

Wow, definitely good news. Too bad she couldn’t be the screenwriter. Anne Rice wrote the screenplay for her book Interview with the Vampire, and it’s the closest book-to-movie adaptation I’ve ever seen.

this sounds gooooooooooooood!

Good thing Stephenie will be there. I’ve liked the last two movies maybe this will work better THANK GOD !
Comment by Sia — 04/28/2010 @ 12:04 pm
OH THANK GOD!
this is the best news we could get after all the speculation over who might be the director. If she’s confident that Condon will be good then so am I…..but I’m totally excited that Stephanie will have more say in what gets put in the final movie. It’s going to be SOOOOO GOOOOOOOD!!

I’m actually kind of glad about this. BD is so weird and complex. At least this way they’ll have the main source present to discuss whether things are correctly done or not.
However, this does nto dissuade me from my reservations about this movie. I think i’ll need a sedative to survive it. Nonetheless i’ll watch it, of course. I mean, having come this far and all… Why the heck not?!
Comment by Liliana — 04/28/2010 @ 12:47 pm
Call me paranoid, but I am convinced she wants to have more control about the sex aspect from BD. After all she has some really strong morals about sex (not meant in a judging way)and I believe she does not want to have too steamy .
I honestly do not really care about BD. The story is creepy (a teenager imprints on a baby…) and Nessie’s character is the biggest Mary Sue out there in published books. But for all the loving fans – I am happy for you.

Yeah, good news. I think they’re going to need the architect of Breaking Dawn to provide a lot more insight to know how it’s going to work visually.
Anyway, gotta go to track practice. Take care everyone!

i think this is pretty exciting. i’m happy for steph, seems like a good step.
@M. you might have a point in steph wanting to have more control over the sex scenes… they have to maintain their PG13 ratings though, so it can’t be too steamy. but that is an interesting point.

That’s kind of sad. She’s paying to get her own book made into a movie.
Comment by Jamie — 04/28/2010 @ 1:56 pm
I agree! This is fantastic! Jeez, this series is just going so fast…
Comment by Alexis — 04/28/2010 @ 2:19 pm
I hope she will have a great deal more input and really excited to see more!
Comment by Claudia — 04/28/2010 @ 2:24 pm
So glad to hear this. Can’t wait!!
Comment by Patricia — 04/28/2010 @ 2:28 pm
this is awesome! especially with all the stuff that probably can’t go on screen, she can be the one who calls the shots and would make it so that it would be what she would have done if it was pg
Comment by Christine — 04/28/2010 @ 2:55 pm
I am glad she will be a big part of breaking dawn. i just hope melissa writes i good enough script i prob am not going to get my hopes up on the birthing scene though just because i think they will not make it like it is in the book because of the rating that they need and i believe that when asked melissa wasn’t going to write it like that so we will prob get scene like twilight when edward was saving bella we will prob see flash backs of all 3 stories and then it will end with a baby’s cry instead of robert bites the baby out of bella

I really so think this is a move to keep it ‘PG-13′. I mean, as it probably should be because it’s a teen novel. This is the confirmation of a ‘fade to black’ on Isle Esme I think folks.
Comment by Ali — 04/28/2010 @ 3:51 pm
I’m so glad that Stephenie is going to have a larger part. I wonder if this means that there will be 2 movies because she said countless times that BD is to long for one movie. Maybe she agreed because Summit decided to make it 2 movies instead of one.
Comment by Cody — 04/28/2010 @ 4:03 pm
I don’t want her as a producer! She needs to stick to what she does best, which if you forget about Breaking Dawn…is writing.
Comment by Lynn — 04/28/2010 @ 8:11 pm
I like Steph but I am unhappy with this news. She is being controlling and I assume it’s so she can force things to be just her way. However, the movie really needs some changes. It is going to look so gross if she forces them to have Jacob imprint on a baby Renesmee! It’s already hard to swallow in the book but on screen it’s just not okay to show. Perverts may like it but it will just look so wrong. I’m very worried about this news.
Comment by Margie — 04/28/2010 @ 8:12 pm
WOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yay!!! I was NOT expecting this! But this is AWESOME!!! YAYYYY STEPHENIE!!!
Comment by Elena — 04/28/2010 @ 8:56 pm
Maybe they had no idea what the heck to do with “Breaking Dawn.” Not the best book for a movie is it? I wouldn’t want to try to produce that garbage.
Comment by Lynn — 04/28/2010 @ 10:36 pm
I am SO excited, Now stephanie can make sure that the first half of the movie isnt messed up…as for the Last bit…the ending etc..I really hope they give us a little bit of a fight……this is her baby so ofcourse she wants to be hands on with this!
Comment by Shobi — 04/28/2010 @ 10:46 pm
yay!!!
this is gonna be goood
ok this BETTER, BETTER, BE TRUE OTHERWISE IM GONNA GET ANNOYED!!!
its good that stephenie is joining the producers coz she actually knows what shes doing, with the story and stuff
Comment by elena — 04/28/2010 @ 11:52 pm
hmm im neutral with this news. this means they will stay pretty true to the book…but then do we want that??
I realllllllly hope they dont fade to black on isle esme. after 3 movies of sexual tension we deserve more than that!
Also, we need action at the end. Come on, an epic battle to finish off the books would be awesome! e.g. bella might only figure out how to use her power during the battle when she sees her friends/family being hurt. at least then we could have some action and bella still saves the day!
Comment by Alyssa — 04/29/2010 @ 1:37 am
Alyssa im with you 100 percent!!!!
Comment by Shobi — 04/29/2010 @ 3:22 am
Awesome!!!!! BD will be the best of the series for sure!
Comment by Jayemvee — 04/29/2010 @ 5:37 am
I am skeptical about making this book into a movie to begin with. If they want it to be good, they have to make some major plot changes. (Like the battle at the end, and the creepy baby) I’m not sure whether Steph’s involvement will help make the story better, or more like the book.

Hey, not exactly related but wanted to see what you guys think… I read on imdb that eclipse is coming out in the uk a week later, on the 9th july.. This is rubbish…
But they said this for new moon last year but they changed it so that it came out on the same day as the US to stop people watching it online… what do you reckon the chances of them doing that this year is??? If it’s release on the 9th I don’t get to see it with my lovely university twilight friends cos uni will have ended for summer
Comment by jemmac — 04/29/2010 @ 12:08 pm
I think this is bad news for the reason you think this is good news. I would not like it to be like the actual book Breaking Dawn, since it was such a let down.
Comment by me — 04/29/2010 @ 3:07 pm
I too agree that they need to make a few changes, like they did in new moon. the volturi fight was awesome, and steph said that she wished SHE had thought of that…..and like less of creepy Nessie!
