Personal History—

Phil is a young minor league baseball player who falls in love with and marries Renée Dwyer (Twilight, pg. 48), Bella’s mother. At the start of the novel he plays for various minor league teams and moves around a lot in order to do so (Twilight, pg. 18), often inadvertently causing Renée to choose between traveling with him and staying behind with Bella. At the end of Twilight, he signs on with the Jacksonville Suns (Twilight, pg. 466). Shortly thereafter, Phil and Renée go for a second honeymoon to Disney World in Orlando, Florida.

He is also a coach for a high school baseball team that is in the Finals at the time of Bella and Edward's visit to Jacksonville (Eclipse, pg. 66). He later breaks his leg on the job, which causes Renée to miss Bella’s high school graduation (Eclipse, pg. 314).
