Hair Straighteners By Edward?

Whenever a new film comes out for a popular movie franchise, a huge range of merchandise hits the shelves from action figures and game boards to mugs, key rings and duvet sets. And the Twilight franchise is no different, a reminder of this I witnessed recently when I was searching the internet for a birthday gift. My other half loves collecting action figures, not the popular toy versions that I’ve always associated action figures to be of, but the more expensive, unique editions from collectable franchises and gaming retailers.

After much searching and deliberating over prices I found a figure that I knew he wanted; Iron Man from the film of the same name and made by Hot Toys. For the kind of figures he collects, the price is moderate so not such a dent in my bank balance and I know he will really appreciate it…which, at the end of the day, is the whole idea.

Now I don’t know why I was surprised, I mean I have seen plenty of merchandise based on the films and these are a common trend, I just never thought about them making statues of the characters and maybe because I have been surrounded by action figures like Batman, Spiderman and Judge Dredd I have been somewhat brainwashed.

Bella’s Hair Comb

So, for curiosity and because I have way too much time on my hands, I dug around to see what else I could find. From bookmarks to icing cake toppers and even Bella’s hair comb, I was not disappointed but highly amused that I can now have the help of Edward Cullen to straighten my hair!

Below is a list of items with a Twilight theme and all available in Amazon:

Bookmarks | Duvet Covers | Necklaces and Bracelets | Pens and Pencils | Pencil Cases| Keyrings | Posters | Signed Autograph Prints | Drinking Mugs | Hair Straighteners | Personalised Wedding Gifts | Badges | Jewellery Box | Wall Art Stickers | Water Bottles | Notepads | Stickers | Wall Scrolls | Personalized Door Plaques | Postcards | Gift Wrap Paper | Icing Cake Toppers | Wall Clocks | Cardboard Cut Outs | ID Cards | Wallets | Bags | Umbrellas | Clothing | Jigsaw Puzzles | Board Games | Wigs | Mouse Pads | Dolls | Action Figures | Perfume | Bella’s Hair Comb | Lunch Boxes | Bella’s Engagement and Wedding Band | Mobile Phone Cases | Bowling Bags

So, if nothing else, this post may give you some gift ideas for either yourself or others, and in light of getting married to my other half next year, I am quite fancying Bella’s engagement and wedding band, although I’m not too sure my boyfriend will go along with it.

Teenager, Corpse, Vampire

Out of all the Twilight movies, there is only one that has the complete wow factor in character transformations. Most of you will have guessed straight away which chapter I am referring to and, after watching it multiple times, still has me mesmerized, shocked, pained and excited all in one go. Without a doubt, for me, one of the most awesome physical effects of the human body in movie history.

Bella’s Pregnancy

Yes it is the deterioration of Bella’s body as her baby grows at a rapid rate in the womb, depriving Bella of the vital nutrients that she needs to stay healthy. This decline in her health is somewhat uncomfortable to watch, as her weight drops and bones begin to show through her skin, particularly on the hips and cheek bones. And if you’ve ever tried to lose weight, you have that little peak of joy when you lie down and can feel your hip bones or look in the mirror and can suddenly see the hollow in your cheeks. But Bella’s weight loss is extreme and as much as you know it is make-up the weaker she gets, the more amazing the effects are on her appearance.

Edward’s Torment

Throughout all of Bella’s agonising downward slope is the love of her life, Edward, who is pacing in the wings, struggling with the reality that he cannot help the woman he loves; his new bride. He never truly came to terms with the fact that Bella became pregnant while they were still on their honeymoon and disagreed with Bella’s decision to keep the baby, even though it was literally tearing her up inside. All he could do was be there for her, honour her wishes and agree to accept their child in place of her.

The Child Within

Being a mother myself I know exactly how it feels to have another human being living inside of you, feeding from you and growing in the protective home you have provided for it. Your body goes through some remarkable changes, not to mention the sudden appearance of thousands of stretch marks (which, may I say, Revitol stretch mark cream did wonders for), yet seeing what Bella went through makes your experience somewhat close to a walk in the park.

From the very first moment you find out you are pregnant, nothing else matters but keeping that child, that embryo, as safe as you can and ensuring that he or she gets exactly what it needs to grow strong and healthy. So Bella’s love for her baby and her ultimate sacrifice of her life is no surprise and would have pulled at the heart strings of many a parent who possess that feeling of unconditional love. And to know that it is an impossible situation to be in makes the storyline only more hard-hitting; leaving a life and people she loves to either die forever or live the life of a vampire.

A Creature is Born

Then comes that horrifying moment when her body breaks and the child has to be born. I don’t think I will ever be able to watch that scene without clenching on something, squeezing my eyes shut or making some inaudible sound that tries to shield my own body from the pain and horror that Bella is suffering. Her body is broken, her end is near and a child has to be saved.

Edward and Bella’s daughter is taken from the womb and for a moment all is special, loving and captivating until the reality of a mother’s last breath is known. All that can be heard from around the world either shouting out loud or deep within is: ‘turn her Edward, turn her!’

It seems like forever before he actually gives her the vampire bite that will hope beyond all hope bring her back from the dead and into a different world, one truly with her husband. This is where, as she is lying motionless, enveiled in death that you see the true extent of how her body has been left…grey skin on bone. Of all the special effects I have seen, Bella’s lifeless body has got to be the most amazing.

The Vampire Born

This is where the excitement is and the hope that a vampire’s venom has enough ‘life’ to take hold and grow from; to transform this lifeless soul back into a new, strong and beautiful Bella. Slowly it seeps through her body like a disease; a disease to the dead, covering every part of her body, mind and soul, repairing bones broken, smoothing damaged skin and pumping an age-old blood through her veins. The effects are magnificent and a wonder to watch, silently wishing that life could be that kind, that magical and perform a miracle. And when her eyes open, you know in that split second that the old Bella has gone and a new vampire has been born.

Teenager Turned To Corpse. Corpse Turned To Beauty

To Be An Author

Experiencing a good movie like Twilight can sometimes inspire you to write a novel of your own, and I am no exception. I love writing and since the day I found a pad and pencil, have always had some literary project on the go. I think it is the sheer excitement of creating any situation, any person, any story that you want and being able to savour each one of them onto a physical form to re-visit whenever you want is absolute magic.

True adventures come from starting out with a blank sheet of paper (or a flashing cursor) and line by line new characters are created with intriguing lives and stories that can keep the reader yearning to find out more.

But creating great story-lines is only half the magic…learning how to use each word to successfully create the right atmosphere is a true art form. How many times have you read a book and could easily imagine all of the surroundings, the smells, the sounds, as if you were really there? That is an example of good writing; being able to transfer all those sensory experiences into words and describe in minute but simple detail the world where you want your reader to be themselves.

So is it just a case of having the gift of being able to put the right words in the right order and being able to describe a scene so that the reader is automatically transported there? Or can it be learnt?

The answer I think is both but you also have to have a love of writing and the passion and patience to effectively unravel a scene. Nowadays there is a wealth of information from on-line content to educational books like Descriptosaurus, so obtaining the knowledge is easy…having the determination and motivation to make it to the end is another story altogether!

Dreaming of Weight Loss and Being a Twilight Member

So, I have started on my quest to look like Edward’s Bella… or Jacob’s Bella, I’m not really fussed…depends what day it is ;).

The junk food has been eliminated (eaten) and lots of fresh veg and fruit has now taken its place in my cupboards which I am actually not minding, although I must admit if I am tempted to eat anything or buy anything resembling a ton of calories, I just imagine Edward is standing next to me and the urge is suddenly not so strong.

I haven’t actually bought into any slimming programs although I am tempted with the Venus Factor Diet but I will see how I go on my own for the time being.

Thinking back to Bella and her ‘perfect’ figure, I can’t help but surmise that if, and WHEN, I lose my weight, would I think my figure to be ‘perfect’.  You hear of so many women who, even when they have lost so much, are still not happy with the way they look.  I suppose this is the way of life… but I still want to find out though!!

One of the many reasons I love Twilight is the setting, those beautiful, rolling hills and dense forests. I live in a town and try to visit the countryside as much as possible but to wake up every morning and experience all that fresh air would be wonderful. In my challenge to boost my weight loss with exercise I’ve taken up field sports; netball and rugby, although my mum’s not too convinced rugby is the way to go (and witnessing as many injuries as I have in the short time I have been doing it has put me off slightly). But at least I’m getting out in the ‘sort of’ fresh air and increasing my fitness levels, and an extra for when I’m fighting off the not-so-nice vampires!

A friend of mine has a company that specialises in custom rugby shirts and has offered to print a shirt for me that has an image of Twilight on the back for when I’m training which is brilliant and it would certainly encourage me to get out on the field with either Edward or Jacob behind me, I just need to decide on which one!

I have also decided to start watching the films again, as it has been a couple of months now and I haven’t visited the one where it all began for a while so…long overdue!  I absolutely love it when a film gets to you so much that you can never get bored of it; no matter how many times you watch it! I remember when I first saw Dirty Dancing, I was so addicted to Johnny that I started fancying this boy from school – because his name was John! Needless to say I still watch Dirty Dancing and don’t even get me started with Javier from Dirty Dancing 2!

So, I’ve figured that having an imaginary heroin or hero by your side when you’re trying to tackle a challenge, which in my case is losing weight, is not at all a bad thing, and if Edward was to stand in front of me when I momentarily stop at the cake store then becoming a size 0 is not going to be such a hard job after all, and going with programs like The Venus Factor will not be needed!
